Comparative effectiveness research is not new

It was just given a new name to serve political ends. A recent analysis in JAMA looked at studies on medications published between June 1, 2008, and September 30, 2009. There are fairly recent publications but reflect research that was designed and begun long before the present hype about CER. They found 104 CER studies, and this was probably a drop in the bucket, as the analysis was confined to only 6 journals.

Related post: We’ve been doing CER for years.
